About
Seven decades of football. Plenty of opinions. Even more evidence.
Football Frankly delivers news, analysis, history and informed opinion from a perspective shaped by more than 60 years in football. Expect independent thinking, occasional irreverence and a willingness to challenge conventional wisdom.
Frank Cooney
Author, journalist, football analyst and founder of NFL Draft Scout. His career spans seven decades, beginning at Hearst’s San Francisco Examiner in 1965, where he spent 30 years as an award-winning sportswriter.
Cooney served on the original launch teams for Madden Football and NFL on FOX, whose broadcasts won four consecutive Emmy Awards. He spent 33 years as a Pro Football Hall of Fame selector, including service on its Seniors Blue-Ribbon Selection Committee. In 2007, he entered the American Football Association’s Semi-Pro Football Hall of Fame.
In 1987, Cooney founded NFL Draft Scout, later working with Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh and scouting director Brian “Hitman” Hitterman to build one of football’s most extensive player information resources.
Through The Sports Xchange, Cooney developed a national network of sportswriters supplying original reporting and analysis to major media organizations.
Today, Cooney publishes Football Frankly, NFL Draft Scout and Hall of Football through The Sports Xchange.
Football Frankly brings that experience together in one place, examining the players, personalities, decisions and history that shape the game.
